Common Skin Cancer Types

Actinic Keratosis

Actinic keratosis is a crusty or scaly lesion. It might show up on different body areas, such as the neck, shoulders, forearms, back hands, lips, ears, face, and scalp. Exposure to the sun is the main cause of this form. Due to its small size, people often notice the lesion when they touch it. Actinic keratosis is often elevated and might feel like a tiny piece of sandpaper on the skin. It can be pink, tan, or turn red. In some cases, the lesion would also have the same tone as the skin. Early treatment is important to prevent squamous cell carcinoma, a more serious type of skin cancer. [2]
