Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy is another effective technique to treat colon cancer. This method focuses on high-energy gamma rays on cancerous cells to kill them. In most cases, your doctor tends to suggest external therapy, meaning that these rays are produced from a device located outside of your body. With internal radiation, radioactive materials will be injected into the affected areas. After a few weeks, the tumor or growth would significantly reduce in size. Radiation therapy is not suggested until colon cancer reaches advanced stages. It should be combined with other treatment options to get the best results. There are some possible side effects, such as fatigue, weight loss, nausea, skin changes, diarrhea, and appetite loss. [7]
