Treatment Options for Chlamydia
Prescription Medications for Non-Pregnant Adults
There are two prescription medications for treating chlamydia in non-pregnant people. These include:
– Vibramycin/Doryx: 100 milligrams orally two times per day for one week
– Zithromax: a single dose of 1 gram orally
Both medications are equally effective in treating chlamydia. Some other alternatives are available, such as Floxin, Levaquin, E.E.S/EryPed, or EryC. However, they seem to cause a few side effects and be less effective. Keep in mind to check for possible allergic reactions. [4]
Prescription Medications for Pregnant Women
For pregnant women with chlamydia, possible prescription medications for treatment include levofloxacin, ofloxacin, or doxycycline. However, keep in mind that there might be a few possible effects. For instance, doxycycline would affect the bone development of your fetus and lead to teeth discoloration. It is important to discuss with your healthcare provider to take the right medications and dosages. [5]
