Mental Issues
Many emotional and mental problems can happen in people with bulimia nervosa. However, they can be more challenging to notice than physical and behavioral signs. Friends and family members are often the first ones to recognize those symptoms, even when they do not have any idea about purging and binging behaviors. Some common changes in the emotion include feeling out of control, extremely self-critical, a strong desire for approval, extreme irritability, mood swings, depression, attractiveness, self-worth, and self-esteem determined by weight and appearance. In addition, people with bulimia nervosa would experience obsessive-compulsive behaviors, anxiety, and depression. Due to a lack of nutrients and vitamins, they would feel irritable and moody most of the time. Suicidal behaviors tend to be the culmination when they cannot control negative thoughts. [5]
