Bruxism (Teeth Grinding) – Symptoms & Causes

Tooth Wear

Bruxism can lead to tooth wear and many other dental issues. It is mainly caused by tooth-to-tooth contact when these parts are grinding or clenching. Over time, these physical activities affect the biting surface or occlusal surface of the teeth and wear them down. When the condition keeps progressing and wearing the enamel layer, it will expose a more vulnerable and softer layer of your teeth called dentin. This would lead to many dental problems, such as increased sensitivity, broken teeth, fractures, chips, tight jaw. In more severe cases, the teeth would be worn away and lost. [4]
