Sleep Problems and Manic Episodes
Sleep issues are not only a sign of mania in people with bipolar disorder. Indeed, reduced sleep may lead to manic episodes as well. It is estimated that around 25 to 65 percent of individuals with the condition experienced a social rhythm disruption before an episode. This sleep problem may affect the sleep and wake cycle, such as staying up too late or getting up too early. For certain unknown reasons, the internal clock mechanisms in individuals with bipolar disorder may be more delicate, making them more susceptible to sleep problems. [3]
