Peripheral Aneurysm
Another form of aneurysm may happen in a peripheral artery. It can be divided further into different types, including:
– Splenic artery aneurysm happens around the spleen.
– Carotid artery aneurysm happens around the neck.
– Popliteal aneurysm is the most common type. It occurs behind the knee.
– Mesenteric artery aneurysm occurs in the artery transporting blood to the intestines.
– Femoral artery aneurysm affects the femoral artery in the groin.
– Visceral aneurysm affects a group of the arteries transporting blood to the kidneys or bowel.
Compared to aortic aneurysms, the risk for peripheral aneurysms to become ruptured tend to be lower.[6]
