TSH Levels in Pregnant Women
Normal levels of TSH can vary a lot in pregnant women, particularly between 18 and 45 years old. Below is a general reference:
– First trimester: from 0.6 to 3.4 mU/l
– Second trimester: from 0.37 to 3.6 mU/l
– Third trimester: from 0.38 to 4 mU/l
It is necessary to monitor levels of TSH during pregnancy. Abnormally high levels and hypothyroidism could have negative effects on the fetus and increase the risk of a miscarriage. When pregnant women have hyper- or hypothyroidism, they might receive a few medications to regulate levels of thyroid and TSH hormone. [6]
