All You Need to Know about TSH

How TSH Levels Can Fluctuate

TSH is released by the pituitary gland and helps control metabolism and production of hormones in the body. It also plays a role in levels of energy and nerve functions. As said above, TSH levels can vary a lot, depending on many factors like stage of life, sex, age. Other lifestyle factors like period, medications, diet, and stress can also make this hormone fluctuate. Levels of TSH can change inversely with the levels of thyroid hormone:

– Low levels of TSH indicate high levels of thyroid hormone. This condition is known as hyperthyroidism

– High levels of TSH indicate that the thyroid gland is underperforming, which causes hypothyroidism [3]
