Smoking
Cigarette smoke contains a lot of harmful chemicals, such as nicotine. They would irritate the vocal cords and result in long-term voice issues. Many studies have shown that current and former smokers are around 3 times more likely to develop a voice problem, such as laryngitis than non-smokers. In addition, long-term smoking would cause a swelling throat and trigger permanent lung conditions. Thus, make sure to quit using tobacco products to reduce the risk. Note that withdrawal would cause temporary respiratory discomfort and congestion when your airways and lungs start to heal. [7]
