Typical symptoms and signs of AML-M5 are quite similar to other types of leukemia, especially in the early stages. The feeling of weakness and fatigue are quite general and may have many possible causes. Several other possible signs of AML-M5 include fever, bleeding, easy bruising, bleeding under gums or skin, bleeding disorders, shortness of breath, anemia, swollen lymph nodes, hypothyroidism, swollen ankles, reduce appetite, loss of weight, skin lumps, progressive loss of hearing, swollen eyes, and low production of urine.  [4]

Acute Monocytic Leukemia Diagnosis

Most signs of AML-M5 are quite general and may have different causes. A doctor tends to do a blood test to identify abnormal blood counts or the number of white blood cells. In addition, some other tests can help, such as:

– Bone marrow biopsy: To analysis a sample from the hip bone for further lab

– Imaging tests: A ultrasound, CT scan, or X-ray

– Spinal tap: To look for cancer cells in the spinal fluid

– Cytogenetic analysis: To identify some genetic mutations in the body cells

– Flow cytometry: To detect and measure physical and chemical characteristics of a population of cells or particles. [5]
