Cracked Nail
When a fingernail is cracked or torn, which would reveal the nail bed, you would feel pain when applying pressure on it. This may be painful and only improves when new skin grows and covers the raw and open area. It often takes 1 week until new skin grows, while the nail may regenerate over the affected area after 1 or 2 months. If you have exposed and tender skin under the nail, make sure to:
– Use clean tools, such as nail scissors or a nail clipper to remove any hangnail from the finger
– Clean the nail and soak it in cool water
– Apply an antibiotic ointment on the skin to prevent infection
– Use a bandage to cover the affected area until it heals [7]
