Lubricating Eye Drops
Over-the-counter eye drops are a conventional treatment for pinkeye. Also called artificial tears, these eyedrops contain antihistamine and other effective medications that can help relieve the symptoms of pink eye. Most people use ophthalmic antibiotics eye drops or ointments such as Bacticin (bacitracin), Zymar (gatifloxacin), Moxeza (moxifloxacin), Ciloxan (ciprofloxacin), Ocuflox (ofloxacin), and many others to treat their pink eye. But drugs classified under antibiotics can only treat conjunctivitis caused by a bacterial infection; they do not work for viral pink eye. However, if your pinkeye is caused by a viral infection, you can use antihistamines and decongestants to relieve symptoms. [4]
