10 Common Symptoms of Bursitis

Swelling

Swelling is one of the most common symptoms that accompany injuries in the joint. Swelling does not occur suddenly; it happens gradually. This symptom is caused by repetitive movements. This is why when you have bursitis, you need to put to total rest the affected area. In the anatomy of the human joints, there are sac-like pads called bursae that act as cushions at the joints. In layman’s terms, bursae serve as shock absorbers for bones when muscles, tendons or skin rub against the bones. These sac-like pads are very crucial because, without them, the bones will be subjected to friction. Filled with lubricating fluid, the bursae become irritated and inflamed and become swollen as a result. [3]
