Bipolar Disorder and Sleep Problems

What Is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness characterized by episodes of emotional lows (depression) and highs (mania). When you experience mania, it is normal to feel irritable, full of energy, or euphoric. On the other hand, depression would lead to hopelessness, sadness, or a sudden loss of pleasure or interest in most activities. Over time, these mood changes may affect your behavior, judgment, activity, energy, sleep, and thought patterns. These episodes would occur repeatedly or rarely. While bipolar disorder is a lifelong disease, it is possible to manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life. [1]
