What Is Paliperidone?

Drug Interactions

Before a prescription of paliperidone, keep in mind to inform your healthcare provider about any drugs that you might be taking, whether they are homeopathic, herbal, nutritional, prescription, or over the counter. Some of them would interact with paliperidone, including St. John’s Wort, sleeping pills, sedatives, several antibiotics like erythromycin and moxifloxacin, anti-anxiety medications, high blood pressure medications, antidepressants, anticonvulsants or anti-seizure medications, as well as anti-arrhythmic medications. Paliperidone would also reduce the effectiveness of medications used for treating Parkinson’s disease, such as levodopa, ropinirole, pramipexole, bromocriptine, and others.

Another side effect of paliperidone is to reduce blood pressure. Taking drugs used for lowering blood pressure would intensify this effect and lead to unexpected falls. Drugs that would reduce the effectiveness of paliperidone include Equatro and Tegretol. Keep in mind that paliperidone would make you feel drowsy. Therefore, make sure to be cautious when you are operating heavy machinery or driving on the road. You should also avoid alcoholic drinks when taking this medication to avoid amplifying these effects. [9]
