Avoid Certain Medications
Be aware of some OTC and prescription medications as they would inhibit REM sleep. In addition, some of their side effects would negatively affect your daytime alertness and sleep patterns. Some common medications and drugs that would disrupt your REM sleep include:
– Aspirin and medications for relieving headaches
– Nasal decongestants
– Allergy and cold medications that contain antihistamines
– Painkillers that contain caffeine
– Some antidepressants and diet pills
If you are currently taking any of these drugs or medications, it is better to talk with your doctor to reduce the dosage or change to another option. [7]
