Relapsed Multiple Myeloma Symptoms

Kidney Issues

Relapsed multiple myeloma can also lead to many kidney issues. They occur as a result of excessive excretion and overproduction of uric acid in the urine, a major risk factor for kidney stones. In general, myeloma cells can generate a large number of harmful proteins known as M proteins. The kidneys are responsible for filtering these substances. However, an excessive amount can overwhelm these organs and increase the risk of many health conditions. Another complication is the buildup of monoclonal antibodies in the blood or urine, which will end up in kidneys for filtering. In advanced stages of multiple myeloma, you can even have kidney failure with permanent damages. [4]
