Prone Position – What It Is and How It’s Used?

Prone Position for Other Medical Conditions

Doctors and healthcare providers often suggest the prone for acute respiratory distress syndrome caused by any disease or condition. These include sepsis, pancreatitis, and pneumonia. Serious injuries to the chest, head, and other parts of the body, as well as accidents, such as drowning or breathing in toxic substances, would also lead to this respiratory condition. However, keep in mind that not all people with symptoms of acute respiratory distress syndrome are suitable for the prone position. Those with spinal instability, fractures, wounds, or burns might not tolerate this position. In addition, it is not recommended for pregnant women in late stages or those who have had tracheal surgery. [5]
