Possible Drug Interaction
Certain drugs may interact with pantoprazole. These include:
– Anticoagulants, such as warfarin, may increase the risk of severe bleeding when taken with pantoprazole.
– HIV medications: You should avoid taking nelfinavir or atazanavir with pantoprazole. This is because pantoprazole would significantly reduce the level of these drugs in the body, which subsequently affects their effectiveness on HIV control.
– Cancer drug: Pantoprazole would increase the amount of a cancer drug called methotrexate in the body.
– Medications affected by pH in the stomach, such as mycophenolate mofetil, erlotinib, iron salts, atazanavir, ampicillin, or ketoconazole. Pantoprazole may affect the levels of stomach acid, which would lower the absorption of these medications and make them less effective. [10]
