Health Benefits of Methylcobalamin versus Cyanocobalamin
In spite of some major differences between cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin. Both forms can provide many health benefits and help prevent a deficiency of vitamin B12. A study has found out that treating 7 vitamin B12-deficient patients with oral methylcobalamin could bring levels of vitamin B12 in their blood to the normal conditions in only two months. Another study suggested that cyanocobalamin capsules would also help increase the levels of vitamin B12 in 3 months. This effect is more obvious in those with pernicious anemia, a disorder triggered by impaired absorption of vitamin B12.
Both cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin can provide many other benefits as well. Some studies have suggested that they were effective in improving symptoms and signs of diabetic neuropathy, which is a complication of diabetes that results in nerve damage. Also, each form would provide neuroprotective effects and might help with treating disorders that affect the nervous system. [5]
