How to Interpret Blood Test Results for Lyme Disease
It is recommended to follow a two-test process in a Lyme disease blood test:
– If the result is negative for Lyme disease, there is no need to do a further test
– If the result is positive for Lyme disease, you need a second blood test
– If the results of both tests are positive for Lyme disease and you also show signs and symptoms of an infection, it is likely that you have Lyme disease
It is important to note that positive results do not necessarily indicate the presence of Lyme disease. In some cases, the test results would indicate an autoimmune disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. [6]
