Compression
In addition to elevation, compression can also help slow down the spread of the insect or spider’s venom. You can simply wrap a bandage around the area, right above the bitten part. By doing this, you can prevent the blood flow from running from the heart to the affected area, which helps alleviate swelling and inflammation. Make sure not to tight the bandage too tight as it would cut off blood circulation. If you are bitten by a redback spider, avoid typing a bandage around the bitten area. Compression does not work in that case as venom of redback spiders tends to spread slowly. Even worse, it would make the pain become worse. [4]
