Other Tests for Diagnosing Trichomoniasis
In addition to at-home testing, trichomoniasis can be diagnosed with one of the following procedures:
– Culture analysis: The goal is to grow trichomonas from the sample to detect the parasite. This test can be suitable for very suspicious cases that other procedures cannot detect the presence of the infection.
– Microscope analysis: This is the most common method to diagnose trichomoniasis. It analyses the sample with a microscope. Since the parasite looks very distinctive, it can be detected easily. However, the results may depend on the sample.
– Molecular testing: There are different molecular tests for diagnosing trichomoniasis. They basically work by detecting the presence of parasite components in the sample [10]
