Indirect Pulp Capping Procedure
Indirect pulp capping typically needs two appointments, which are 6 to 8 months apart. The basic procedure is as follows:
– Remove decayed material in the tooth. A small part is still left to cover tissue in the pulp
– Apply a sedative material to the affected dentin to improve remineralization
– Fill the cavity with a temporary filling, which will be removed in the second appointment after 6 to 8 months
– At this point, the damaged dentin may have regenerated. The dentist will remove any residual decay
– Lastly, the dentist places a permanent filling to improve the tooth’s strength [3]
