Cartilage Injury
Knee cartilage injury may happen as the result of chronic overuse, degenerative arthritis, or a traumatic injury. Different forms of cartilage can be damaged, depending on which kind of injury you have. Below are some common issues that may happen when a cartilage injury occurs:
– Flaps: This injury happens when a part of the cartilage layer is not adhered to and lifted from the usual position. As a result, it causes catching feelings when you move the knees.
– Thinning: The thinning of cartilage would happen in the early stage of arthritis or after an injury in the knee. The affected area might have a rough appearance and not glide easily as usual.
– Defects: This issue may result in the exposed bone in the joint. Knee arthritis or traumatic injuries can be possible causes.
– Fissuring: When a cleavage occurs in the cartilage layer, a fissure may happen in the articular cartilage. This would lead to separated layers. In some cases, there are no signs. [5]
