Top 10 Causes of Shoulder Pain

SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior-Posterior) Tear

The labrum is a ring of tissue at the socket part of the shoulder joint that deepens the socket, making the joint more stable. A SLAP tear occurs when the top part of the Labrum is injured or torn. A SLAP tear is mostly caused by injuries such as an outstretched or a fall onto your arm, and it may also be caused by repeated lifting or other overhead activities.

A SLAP tear is a specific type of glenoid labrum (shoulder joint) tear. It is also a common tear in athletes who throw overhead (for example, baseball pitchers) or workers who involved in repetitive overhead activities (for example, painter). SLAP tear symptoms are:

A pain in throwing or lifting your arms overhead;

Popping or clicking in the shoulder;

and a feeling of weakness or instability and a general shoulder ache. [3]
