Sclerotherapy for Varicose and Spider Veins

How Much Sclerotherapy Costs

The average cost of a single sclerotherapy procedure in 2017 was $369 according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. If it’s done for cosmetic reasons, Sclerotherapy is usually not covered by insurance. Basically, the overall cost depends on the size and number of veins treated, and it also depends on where you live. However, your insurance might cover the procedure, even if your medical symptoms are just related to varicose veins.

What to Expect after Sclerotherapy

There is little to no downtime associated with sclerotherapy, and it’s likely for you to return to your everyday activities immediately. You may be able to wear compression socks or stockings in the first 24 hours after sclerotherapy. It’s advisable for you to wear the stockings during the day and remove them at night while sleeping after the first day. You should only remove these to shower. You should use acetaminophen-based pain medicine like Tylenol for any discomfort. Anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen can affect your blood’s clotting process. Avoid sunlight, saunas, swimming pools, the beach, hot baths during the first two days after treatment. To reduce the chance of blood clots, you should also stay active. Aerobic exercises such as running and weight lifting should be avoided for a couple of days. It’s also not advisable to fly for several days.
