How to Measure Resting Heart Rate
You can simply measure the resting heart rate by reading the pulse, which can be found over the neck or wrist. It is best to measure the radial artery pulse. It is located over the lateral part of the wrist or below your hand’s thumb side. To begin, press gently the tips of the middle and index fingers over your wrist. Avoid using the thumb because this part has a different pulse. Count the heartbeats in 60 seconds. It is possible to measure in 10 seconds or 30 seconds and then multiply by 6 or 2, respectively. You can also determine with a heart rate monitor, which is able to measure automatically. [3]
