Psoriatic Arthritis Enthesitis: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention

What Is Psoriatic Arthritis?

Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that occurs in individuals with psoriasis, a medical condition characterized by red skin areas and silver scales. In many cases, people tend to develop symptoms of psoriasis many years before they are diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. Typical signs of this disease include swelling, joint stiffness, and joint pain. They may affect any body parts, including the spine and fingertips, and the intensity may range from mild to severe. In both psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis, flare-ups may change with periods of remission. There is currently no cure for psoriatic arthritis, but some treatment options can help manage the symptoms and prevent joint damage. If left untreated, the condition would be disabling. [1]
