Food Cravings
If you have recently experienced food cravings, it can also be a symptom of premenstrual syndrome. This effect can be attributed to a hormone called estradiol. This is a major part of the estrogen group that can affect the appetite region of your brain in the hypothalamus and decreases hunger. During the first phase of the cycle, estrogen increases. But in the next phase, progesterone will increase and lead to a drop in estrogen levels. Unlike estradiol, progesterone would increase the appetite of women by block out the effects of estrogen on the brain. Therefore, people with the premenstrual syndrome tend to crave some foods during this period. [8]
