How Does It Develop?
Korsakoff syndrome tends to develop gradually even if Wernicke’s encephalopathy is not treated soon enough or untreated. When damage happens in a couple of brain areas, especially in essential small regions located deep within the brain, it would lead to a serious loss of short-term or daily memory. Many other capabilities might remain unchanged, especially working memory. Over time, these effects can result in further complications and deteriorate the brain more. [4]
