Effectiveness of Immunotherapy in Treating Small Cell Lung Cancer
Previous studies have shown that a combination of chemotherapy and different forms of immunotherapy medications would be effective in treating small cell lung cancer. As the first-line treatment, these drugs may improve the quality of life and survival rate for people with extensive stage. Nevertheless, they do not work for everyone. Immunotherapy is only suitable for tumors with the presence of white blood cells or T cells. In certain circumstances, tumors would mutate and prevent T cells from entering, which makes immune checkpoint inhibitors ineffective. That’s why people with autoimmune disorders, such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, or Crohn’s disease, may not suitable for immunotherapy medications. [6]
