Hyponatremia – Symptoms & Causes

Medications

There are some drugs and medications that can cause lower levels of blood sodium and trigger hyponatremia. These include MDMA, amiodarone, theophylline, indapamide, chlorpromazine, carbamazepine, SSRIs, pain medications, antidepressants or thiazide diuretics. They can interfere with your kidney processes and normal hormonal functions, thus affecting the concentrations of sodium in the blood. Stopping the drugs might be a simple way to improve your symptoms. However, make sure to consult your doctor, especially when you are taking illegal or over-the-counter drugs. [12]
