Diet Changes
The best diet to reduce levels of LDL and total cholesterol is a vegetarian diet. Nevertheless, it can be challenging for many people to follow it. A Mediterranean diet may be easier since it does not have any strict definition of included food. In general, you need:
– Replace other oils and fats with olive oil
– Consume some yogurt or low-fat cheese on a daily basis
– Consume more plant-based foods, such as seeds, nuts, beans, grains, veggies, and fruits
– Reduce processed food
– Consume fish a few times a week
– Reduce consumption of alcohol
If you are unsure which diet to follow, it is better to consult your doctor or dietitian. [8]
