Causes of HSV-1
HSV-1 is mostly transmitted by oral contact to trigger oral herpes. These include kissing, eating with the same utensils, or sharing the same lip balm. Nevertheless, it would also be caused by genital-oral contact in the genital areas. The risk is often highest during an outbreak when the sores are active. If children contract the HSV-1 early in life, they would carry the viruses for the rest of their lives. Those people who already suffer from HSV-1 infection in the mouth are unlikely to have the same condition in their genital areas. In some rare cases, mothers with the condition would transmit the viruses to their babies during pregnancy. [2]
