Facts of Periorbital Cellulitis

Causes of Periorbital Cellulitis

The majority of people with periorbital cellulitis is caused by bacteria. However, there are some other triggers, including parasitic worms, fungi, and viruses. The bacteria infection would spread from sinusitis or other parts of the eyes. In addition, it would happen after minor trauma in your eyelids, such as a cat scratch or a bug bite. After these minor injuries, bacteria and microorganisms would penetrate the open wound and lead to the infection. There are three bacterial strains that often trigger periorbital cellulitis, including Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus, and Staphylococcus. These types tend to affect children more than adults.
