Epilepsy – Symptoms & Causes

Aura

When you are suffering from epilepsy, the risk of having an aura is relatively high. This is basically a distinct perception, such as psychological, sensory, motor, or visual, that you would experience before or during a seizure. An aura might start several seconds before the seizure or come for an hour in advance. In focal epilepsy, this is often an early warning sign as it mostly happens less than 2 minutes before the seizure would lead to a loss of consciousness. Auras can vary greatly from people to people, but they tend to be similar in the same form of epilepsy or seizure. A few cases can be simple to describe like seeing a zig-zag line or experiencing a strange smell, while others tend to be harder to explain like the feeling of attachment from the body. [6]
