Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis – An Overview

Risk Factors for Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis

While the exact cause of eosinophilic gastroenteritis is still not fully understood, it is believed that allergies may play a part. Scientists have noticed that many people with this condition may have asthma, eczema, hay fever, food allergies, seasonal allergies, and hypersensitivity reactions. The level of immunoglobulin E in their blood is also higher than normal. Therefore, if you have a family history of these conditions, the risk of developing eosinophilic gastroenteritis may be higher. It is estimated that around 70 to 80 percent of people with this disease have pre-existing allergies. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a bit more prevalent in men than women. While people of all age groups may develop the disease, it is more common in adults between 20 and 50 years old. [4]
