Receding Gums
There is a direct link between bone loss and dental or oral health. It is important to know that up to 99 percent of the calcium in the body can be found in teeth and bones. When the jaw loses bone and deteriorates, the gums would start to recede accordingly. This would also indicate bone loss in other parts of the body. Studies have also shown a link between bone mineral density and tooth loss. Postmenopausal women who suffer from osteoporosis tend to be more likely to have tooth loss. For these reasons, next time when you notice receding gums or related conditions, consult your doctor immediately because it can be a possible sign of osteopenia. [3]
