Dravet Syndrome – Treatments and Therapies

Fenfluramine

Fenfluramine is sold under the brand name Fintepla. It was approved by the FDA for treating seizures in people with Dravet syndrome who are at least two years old. Previous studies suggested that taking this medication may lead to a significant reduction in the frequency of convulsive seizure. However, fenfluramine is linked to pulmonary artrial hypertension and valvular heart disease. That’s why you need to undergo cardiac monitor before, during, and after this treatment. Common side effects include sleepiness, lower appetite, lethargy, sedation, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, abnormal echocardiogram, balance issues, impaired coordination, walking problems, drooling, high blood pressure, vomiting, and more.
