Many medications can help improve symptoms of dermatomyositis:
– Corticosteroids: These drugs can quickly help control issues caused by dermatomyositis. However, taking them in the long run could lead to severe side effects.
– Corticosteroid-sparing agents: They can be taken with a corticosteroid to help reduce side effects and dose of the corticosteroid. Two common options include methotrexate and azathioprine.
– Antimalarial drugs: They can help deal with a chronic rash.
