Risk Factors for De Novo Breast Cancer
Some risk factors for the development of de novo metastatic breast cancer may include:
– Being a person of color or a Black person
– Being younger than 40 years old: younger women tend to get routine screening less regularly than older women
– Living in rural areas or having low levels of income: this leads to a lack access to preventive services
In addition, some common risk factors for general breast cancer include alcohol consumption, undergoing hormone replacement therapy, obesity, being overweight, dense breast tissue, getting radiation therapy in the breasts or chest, a family history of ovarian or breast cancer, mutations in genes BRCA1 or BRCA2, being old, first menopause after 35 years old, the first period before 12 years old, not having kids or having the first kid after 30 years old.
