Common Treatments for Venous Thrombosis

Surgery and Exercises

In some cases, a doctor would suggest surgery to remove a blood clot caused by venous thrombosis in the leg or arm. This is only the option when the clots become too large and cause severe problems. During this procedure, they will make a small incision in the blood vessel, remove the clots, and then repair the tissue and blood vessel. There are some possible risks, such as excess bleeding, blood vessel damage, or infection. [4]

The risk of developing venous thrombosis increases when you sit for an extended period. Fortunately, some exercises can help move your legs and improve blood circulation. These include:

– Knee pulls: Bend both legs and raise both knees to the chest.

Ankle circles: Lift your feet off the ground and use your toes to draw circles in one direction for several seconds. Do the same in the other direction.

– Foot pumps: Put both feet on the ground, then raise and lower the heels. [5]
