10 Ways to Remove Varicose Veins

Varicose veins happen when your veins get enlarged and swollen. This may lead to discomfort and pain. Approximately 1 out of 5 adults may experience this health issue at some point in their life. Many medical treatments and home remedies are available to treat varicose veins. Below are 10 ways to help you remove them and relieve the symptoms.

1Dietary Changes

Some changes in the diet can help improve vein health. Dietary fiber is important for bowel function, which reduces the risk of constipation and abdominal pressure that would worsen varicose veins. High-fiber foods to eat include wheat, whole-grain foods, nuts, oats, plums, figs, beans, peas, flaxseeds, onions, cauliflowers, artichokes, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, avocadoes, and other fruits or veggies.

A deficiency of potassium may result in water retention. As a result, it would increase the blood volume and put more pressure on veins. You need to consume more potassium-rich food, such as salmons, pistachios, almonds, yogurts, lentils, white beans, chicken, tunas, oranges, leafy veggies, potatoes, and more.

Also, foods high in flavonoids can be effective in improving blood circulation, relaxing blood vessels, and reducing blood pressure. These include apples, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, citrus fruits, grapes, cocoa, broccolis, spinach, bell peppers, garlics, or onions.  [1]

Physical Activities

Many physical activities can help treat varicose veins. In general, moving more can help circulate blood better. This prevents the blood from building up in your damaged veins and worsening the symptoms. You can try some low-impact exercises, such as stretching, yoga, cycling, walking, or swimming. Moderate exercise can help as well with high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for the formation of varicose veins. [2]
