Chronic Cough – Diagnosis and Treatment

Imaging Tests

Many imaging tests can be effective in diagnosing chronic cough. With a chest X-ray, your doctor can check for possible signs of pneumonia, lung cancer, and other lung problems. However, it will not suggest common causes for chronic cough, including asthma, acid reflux, or postnasal drip. An X-ray can also be done in the sinuses to look for a sinus infection. Another option is a computerized tomography or CT scan. It can provide detailed pictures of your lungs, which would indicate underlying conditions that trigger a chronic cough. [2]
