If chipped teeth are painful or sensitive, dental treatment is typically needed urgently. Even when your children look fine or when the fragment is small, it is still advisable to visit a dentist, particularly when the teeth hurt. Even a small chip may cause underlying problems. The teeth generally consist of multiple layers: the pulp, the inner dentin, and the outer enamel. Damage to the outer layer would not be a problem.
