Causes and Fixes for Postnasal Drip

Non-Allergic Rhinitis

Postnasal drip can be triggered by vasomotor rhinitis or non-allergic rhinitis as well. This can be suspected in the elderly with the symptom who did not have issues with allergies when they were young. This cause often leads to worsening symptoms with some factors, such as spicy foods, strong perfumes or smells, weather changes, as well as medications. Even exercises and sex can also have effects on the condition. Allergy testing cannot be used to diagnose non-allergic rhinitis. Treatment options include oral antihistamines, anticholinergic nasal sprays, nasal antihistamines, or nasal steroids. [3]
