Bronchiectasis Symptoms & Treatments You Need to Know

Medication

In some instances, medication may be prescribed to make clearing your lungs and breathing easier.

Nebulised medications

Nebuliser is a device used to inhale the medication. Occasionally, it may be recommended for easy cleaning of the patient’s lungs.
These devices consist of a mouthpiece or face mask, a chamber for producing fine mist from the medication, and a compressor for pumping the fine mist into your lungs.
It’s a great way of administering several medications, including brine (saltwater) solutions.
These medications perform by reducing the phlegm thickness, so it’s easier to cough out the mucus in the lungs. Also, in other instances, nebulizers are useful for administering antibiotics, if need be.

Bronchodilators

This treatment option is always prescribed on a short-term basis for those with a severe flare-up of symptoms. Bronchodilators are medications inhaled to help make patient’s breathing less difficult by relaxing the lung’s muscles.
Common examples of bronchodilators include theophylline, anticholinergics, and beta 2-adrenergic agonist. [6]
