8 Causes and Risk Factors of Strep Throat

Age

Children are often at the highest risk of developing strep throat. The condition is more common in kids, ranging from 5 years old to 15 years old. This is because their immune system is not fully developed. Therefore, bacteria would easily penetrate and attack. Strep throat can also occur in adults, but with a much lower rate. In fact, only 5% to 10% of reported cases occur in this age range. In both cases, having a strong immune system would be the decisive factor to reduce the risk. [2]
